CRITICAL REFLECTION

Image
How do your products represent social groups or issues? My team and I created a film that thoroughly represents the social issue that is most prominent in our area, currently: the Coronavirus Pandemic. However, in our film, we chose to represent this virus in a new light. We re-named the illness and gave it new symptoms to add some mystery to our film. We did not want our audience to feel like they already knew everything about the virus, which is why we decided to make these changes. We also made an effort to convey some of our personal experiences into our film, revolving around the Pandemic. When we were coming up with this plot, we discussed the weirdness of society before and after the virus became a looming danger. We remember how normal and happy people seemed out in public, versus how rushed and isolated it felt after the lockdown was announced. We wanted our characters to experience these same feelings and situations, to best relate to our audience. At the start of the film, o

FILMING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

Image
Hello, everyone! Today, my group and I met in front of my neighborhood so that we could film the Guard Scene of our film. I live right behind a big mall, so we all met in the parking lot there so that we could get ready to film the scene. All that we had to do was film our characters getting to the neighborhood where they are going to be staying in an Air BnB. We had Hillery's brother Mikey be the security guard who stands at the gate of the neighborhood. Hillery decided that she would be the one to film the scene, so we had to use an angle that wouldn't show that she wasn't actually in the car with us. This filming experience was definitely the most stressful. Blake had to be the one driving in this scene, but he had to be driving Hillery's car because that was the car we had been using throughout the whole film. Hillery was very nervous about this because, understandably, it is scary to have someone else driving your car. The other stressful part about this filming e

FILMING AT GFS

Image
Hello, everyone! Today, my group and I filmed our grocery store scene. We ended up leaving our houses after first period to meet each other at Gordon Food Services. Originally, we were planning on filming this scene at Public, because its our main grocery store and it closest to all of us. However, Hillery advised that GFS would be better because fewer people go there and it would be easier to film without any distractions. So, we ended up going there during our second period class and got right to work. Blake and Hillery got there first and waited for Tess and me. Then, we shot one clip in the parking lot. I wanted to get one video of our characters "pulling in to GFS". So, I had Blake, Hillery, and Tess get into Hillery's car and pull into a parking spot so that I could film it. This clip is very short, but it will establish where our characters are in that point in the video. Once that clip turned out the way we wanted it, we headed inside the grocery store. In here,

REFLECTION ON FIRST SEMESTER

Image
Hello, everyone! Today is December 31st, 2020. It is officially the last day of 2020! Many of my recent blogs have discussed what specifically my group has been working on during this month and our winter break. I thought it would be interesting to make my final blog of December focused on how this year has been so far in my Media class. I am happy to say that I am very proud of what my group and I have accomplished. When we first signed up for AICE A-Level Media, we were definitely not expecting anything close to what this year has been like. Completing a course all about filming and communications is definitely a struggle during a frightening pandemic. However, I think that my teacher has done a great job keeping our class on track. We are still preparing for our AICE Exam and have kept up with all of our mandatory blogs, even over our teams meetings. At the very beginning of this school year, we were instructed to form a group for our main project. Hillery, Tess, Blake,

BREAK ENDING SOON

Image
Hello, everyone! It has been a couple of days since my group and I met to film. Break is now quickly coming to an end. While we would like to meet again to film, we are not sure if we will be able to. It has been hard enough to get everyone together, so we are not stressing about squeezing another filming day in.  All of us currently have a lot of other homework and assignments to get done before break ends. I have had to push a lot of other class's assignments to the back burner so I could focus on this one. This means that for the next couple of days, I will have to focus less on our film so that I can get all of my other work done. We would like to still continue to make progress on our film, though. So, even if we do not meet again before break ends, we will each do our part to stay on schedule. I will do my part by editing some of the clips we already have filmed. I have Final Cut Pro on my computer. This is definitely one of the best video-editing softwares that i

SECOND DAY OF FILMING

Image
Hello, everyone! Today my group and I had our second day of filming. As I have discussed in some of my most recent blogs, my group and I have definitely had a hard time finding days and times that work for everyone. We have all been very busy lately and agreeing on a set time is not always doable. However, today we were all able to meet at Hillery's house from 2-4 p.m. Blake was not able to drive himself to Hillery's because his dad took his car for work. I picked Blake up and drove him there so that we would still all be able to make it. Once we all arrived, we got right to work. We planned out which scenes we would film and how we would make them work. We wanted to shoot the scenes in an angle so that parts of Hillery's house were not shown. The characters we are playing are supposed to be staying in an Air BNB. Air BNB's usually are very empty looking in terms of decorations and stuff because they are meant to serve as hotel rooms for guests. Because
